Aunt Blake and Owens have lived in Delaware their entire lives. The Braithwaite Family fondly refers to Aunt Blake and Owens as our “Great Baking Aunts”. The sisters were employed by the local school system as cooks, and by “cooks” we don’t mean open and can of something and heat it up. This was cooking (the old fashioned way) they used the ingredients found in the kitchen and made their own versions of meals that fed hundreds of hungry school children. Should our “Aunties” be ill, the school children would have to eat from the snack machines. Upon the “Aunts” return, the children would make it known to our “Baking Aunts” that there would be no more sick days. The Braithwaite House has proudly named a wonderful baked fragrance “Blake and Owens Scones”. Now, you too can also enjoy the home baked goodness of our “Great Baking Aunts” in your home. Just imagine, the home baked aroma of sweet butter bread smothered with raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon – this fragrance is a touch of days gone by. Stop by and read some more about our Braithwaite family - www.thebraithwaitehouse.com

Our family is descended from the ancient family of Pennington of Muncaster, who flourished in the reign of King Henry II. The oldest Pennington we know of, Gamel de Peninton or Penitone, bore an Old Norse first name, indicating Viking ancestry. He held the manor during the time of King Henry II. During the War of the Roses, Holy King Harry, Henry VI, became lost after the Battle of Towton in 1464. Sir John Pennington rescued him near Muncaster. In gratitude, King Henry presented Sir John with a fragile glass cup called the “Luck of Muncaster” and a blessing the family would never run out of male heirs so long as the cup remained unbroken. Though the cup still survives, the last male Pennington of this line died in 1917.

We are a family owned business that specializes in hand poured soy candles, patti meltz (this is our verision of tarts or melts) and wickless flames. This endeavor began over 5 years ago, and with a lot of patience and testing we felt we were ready to sell our products on line.

Our company names stems from our family history, we are related to the Braithwaite and Pennington families who originated in England and Germany. They eventually migrated to Virginia and we’ve spread out over the country from there.

If you peruse our fragrance list, you’ll see fragrances named for our family members as well as favorite “haunts” of those family members who have given us this rich heritage.
